One of the things I love most about being a maternity and newborn photographer is getting to come alongside families and share in the excitement and anticipation of the arrival of their newest family member! I have always daydreamed about photographing a gender reveal as part of a session, so when Kristen contacted me about a family photo session that included a gender reveal for baby #3… I could not have said yes fast enough!
That morning, Kristen’s friend Katherine (who happens to be another one of my fabulous clients!) met up with us to assist with the big reveal. We spent a few minutes catching up while I fawned over her newest addition, and then she handed me the envelope with a congratulatory card and an ultrasound photo revealing the baby-to-be’s gender! I have to say, I have never before known the gender of someone else’s baby before they have, and it was SUCH a special and exciting moment! Katherine and I double (and triple!) checked to make sure we had the correct smoke bombs. We headed to the back yard with Kristen, DJ, and their two girls, and as I got everyone ready for the big reveal, I asked for their final guesses. Boy, boy, girl, and “healthy baby!”
I turned everyone around and asked them to close their eyes, then got into position. Katherine lit the smoke bombs, and they began to hiss and emit bright plumes of smoke. “One, two, three… turn around!” I yelled. I watched their faces register the news, then Kristen shouted, “It’s PINK!!! It’s a GIRL!!!!” Laughter, joy, disbelief, excitement! THREE precious girls for this sweet, wonderful family! The giddiness and excitement carried through the rest of the session as we talked about baby sister growing inside the bump!
Kristen and DJ—what an honor to be included in this special memory with your family! I could not be more excited for all of you… your sweet baby GIRL on the way is going to be surrounded by SO much LOVE!!!
